Marine Pollutant Placards

The marine pollutant mark - or marine pollutant placards - are required for substances that are deemed environmentally hazardous to an aquatic environment.  The marine pollutant mark takes on two forms: the marine pollutant labels  (for packages) & marine pollutant placards (shipping containers) which must be marked on all 4 sides with the marine pollutant placard pictured below.  The marine pollutant mark is required* for UN3077, UN3082, and environmentally hazardous substances meeting the classification criteria of Part 2.9.3 of the IMDG Code.

Use of the marine pollutant mark / marine pollutant placards
IMDG Code Part 5.2.1.6.1 - except as provided in 2.10.2.7 packages containing marine pollutants meeting the criteria of 2.9.3 shall be durably marked with the marine pollutant mark. IMDG Code Part 5.3.2.3.1 - except as provided in 2.10.2.7 cargo transport units containing marine pollutants shall clearly display the marine pollutant mark [marine pollutant placard] in location indicated in 5.3.1.1.4.1. Marine pollutant placards - applied to CTUs - are required to be a minimum of 250 mm x 250 mm.  The marine pollutant label - applied to packages - is required to be a minimum of 100 mm x 100 mm.  If the size of the package requires, the dimensions may be reduced to not less than 50 mm x 50 mm (more info here).
